The Shale Spider (as pictured) is found in Deepholm toward the latter part of the quests in the zone. It is an exotic pet, so you’ve got to be Beastmstery — which is the best spec right now in beta. That might change, but it’s looking like it’s gotten a lot of love for Cataclysm.
The spider’s special ability is pretty slick, it’s like “Blessing of Kings Lite,” and is a Tenacity pet, so you can use this guy for tanking.
Fills all friendly party and raid members with the Shale Spider’s embrace, increasing Strength, Agility, Stamina, and Intellect by 5%.
When I tamed this guy initially, he shrunk down to next to nothing — and honestly looked like a non-combat pet, and makes the cutest little screech when you send him off to go kill something.
The downside? Evidently taming the shale spider makes your hunter not load correctly, and crashes your client. I couldn’t play for a week and a half. So if you’re in beta, avoid this guy for now.
Though when Cataclysm comes around and the bugs are worked out, I’ll be picking up one of these guys. I like the idea that the pets can help bring buffs to a raid group — and with the 10-man raids giving the same loot as 25′s, having the ability to fill in buffing gaps makes the hunter a pretty valuable class.
