Fun Thing! Lawn of the Dead

Morynne —  November 24, 2010 — 1 Comment

This series of 5 quests is in Hillsbrad Foothills, just south of the Dalaran crater, and was added in the 4.03a patch.

The objective? Save Brazie’s farm from the invading ghouls.

How? Play Peacebloom vs. Ghouls (or… Plants vs. Zombies)

There are 5 rounds of this mini-game, the last you have to save the farm from a Professor Putricide looking ghoul named Warden Stillwater.

  • Round 1: Basic Botany – This is the easiest and least hectic of the games.  You have 1 lane of zombies to defend from, and you just have to survive one massive wave of zombies.
    • R1 Strategy: Right click the glowy yellow sun powers, and put your plants in a row down the center lane.  Win.
  • Round 2: Flower Power – You now have Sunflowers unlocked.  They create additional sun power.  You now have 3 lanes of zombies to defend.
    • R2 Strategy: Create at least 3 sunflowers quickly in the game.  The more the better for the remaining rounds.  You will also have a rocknut to use, which will keep those early ghouls busy while you create your offense.  During this round, you will also get Freezya seeds, which give you a plant that slows ghouls down. Use these as much as possible. Win.
  • Round 3: Ghouls Hate My Grains – You have some more tools this round.  You’ll have tentacle plants that grab zombies and fling them around.  You’ll also be handling all 5 lanes this time, so stay alert!
    • R3 Strategy: As before, the more sunflowers the better.  Use the slowing plants as well as your standard pea shooters with rocknuts in front of them.  It’s a good idea to put your tentacle plants in front of those as quick early defense.  At the end of this round, you’ll get the Pumpkin Bomb to use in the next round.
  • Round 4: Someone Setup the Pumpkin Bomb – You’ll be dealing with bigger “massive waves” of zombies this round, and you have to survive 2 of them.  Your resources will seem depleted very quickly, so be smart about what you’re putting out there.
    • R4 Strategy: Sunflowers, sunflowers, sunflowers.  You can use the same setup as the last round and do pretty well, and when you feel like you’re going to get overrun, use a Pumpkin Bomb to clear the field.  If you think this round is bad, just wait until the next one.
  • Round 5: Lawn of the Dead – This is the hardest round, and you don’t have a map showing you anything about when you should expect a massive wave, and the Warden throws out bombs that take out some of your plants.
    • R5 Strategy: Build your resources quickly, and use the same setup as before.  When you lose a plant, make sure you replace it with another as quickly as resources allow.  Use Pumpkin Bombs to defeat the Warden.

Once you’ve completed Lawn of the Dead, you can no longer play the mini-game, but Popcap has a free web version, and it’s available for PC, and iOS devices, but you are rewarded with Brazie’s Sunflower!

She sings and idles about, and is super cute.  The tune she’s humming is from the Plants vs Zombies music video.

Braiiiins!

Warcraft Magazine Arrived!

What a great surprise!

I got home yesterday to a fantastic surprise!

I found the Warcraft Magazine sitting in my mailbox.  I gave it a quick look through and I’m very impressed.  They weren’t lying when they said it would be PACKED with information. This gem has 147 pages of full color, glossy photographs and all around goodness.

The first thing you see is a beautiful concept art of Stormwind Cathedral at sunrise — for the beginning of something new, and quickly transitions into lore about Arthas and Sylvanas Windrunner, which is most excellent for those people out there who have never played horde.  They’ll now understand the depth of this plot, and not just the Jaina “puppy love” crushed heart saga.

Probably my favorite portions of the magazine that I had a chance to review are the strategies by some of the best guilds in the world — and how they do some of the most difficult fights in current content.

Kwurky

I also really enjoyed the feature articles about healer UI’s.  I know one of them, if not more, were submitted by Matticus, despite not being credited.

If you’re into mini-pet collecting, there’s a large article interviewing Breanni about her collection, and why Brian (that’s the real life Brianni) collects the way he does.

If you’re into the TCG — there’s lots of that too, as well as talking about Arenas and a spotlight on Strand of the Ancients.

Provided the next issues follow the same trend as this copy of the magazine, I’ll definitely say I got my money’s worth, despite having ordered at Blizzcon just to get the green murloc plushie. :)

2010 Resolutions in WoW

Morynne —  December 29, 2009 — 2 Comments

With Friday being a whole new year, I figure there’s absolutely nothing wrong with jotting down a few goals for next year, and in this forum, specifically Warcraft related.

  1. Succesfully level an alt to 80 by Cataclysm release. I’ve historically been very bad about alts, and I hate leveling, but I’d like to have another 80 on my account.  Lately I’ve been working on a baby druid I intend to go Feral with — tanking or DPS, I haven’t decided yet.  I’m linking the baby druid’s armory on my sidebar to keep me honest.
  2. Make more gold. I know this sounds silly, but I hate constantly spending more than I bring in.  Raid mats are expensive, yo.  I’ve made about 6k off of Iceblade Arrows in the last couple weeks, so I’m hoping I can find a way to continue that momentum because I know I’ll need the capital once Cataclysm hits.
  3. At least get the Exploration Achievements done before Cataclysm. Seriously, I’ve played this character for 2 and a half years and I haven’t been everywhere.  Time to fix that before Cataclysm turns the world upside down.
  4. Continue the momentum I’ve had on this blog. I’ve been doing this for about a month now, and I’m quite pleased with what I’ve got.  The blog community for WoW has been fantastic, and it’s helping me get my brain wrapped around some things.

Those are what I have so far… and I think they’re mostly reasonable.  Now… how the heck am I going to find the time…. :)

Happy Holidays!

Seasons Greetings from Morynne & Sock

Happy Holidays to everyone out there, no matter what you celebrate.

I hope you’ve gotten at least a few things from your wish list, and you get your tummies full of holiday cheer.

Much love,

Merrymaker? Check!

Merrymaker MorynneIt’s been relatively slow as far as news has been concerned for the last week or so — I guess everyone is getting ready for the holidays, which is awesome.

I’m a big fan of the LFG tool.  I have acquired the pug, and I think he’s adorable, despite the fact he drags his butt on the ground.  I have tortured my Engineer friend with enough reputation with the Ashen Verdict to make the Iceblade Arrows.  I think he might hate me a little bit right now, I had him craft 5 stacks of Eternal Shadow for arrows.  That’s right folks, 500,000 arrows.  I’ve sold quite a bit of them, but still have my bank alt overflowing with them. That includes my bank alt’s bank space, 2 guild bank tabs, and inventory.  If I ever run out of arrows again, there’s something quite wrong with me.

I’m a little irked at the moment though… Winter Veil just isn’t quite as special to me now that I don’t have to run around and save Metzen the Reindeer and do all the other achievements attached to the Merrymaker achievement.  I got Merrymaker finished last year for the What a Long Strange Trip it’s Been achievement. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still fun to watch people run around and do all the achievements.  Seeing people in gnome costumes in Battlegrounds when I go, and watch snowballs be hurled around.  It’s just not quite as satisfying without that achievement “Ding!”

I am looking forward to opening the packages under the tree again this year — find out what the new toy is, and then go around and pelt all the faction leaders.  That’s just a few more days away.

So what are you guys doing to keep the Winter Veil spirit alive?

I want to wish everyone a safe and Happy Holiday, no matter what you’re celebrating.

Are you a pet collector?

No no, not talking about your buddies who fight alongside you even if you’re doing something stupid.  I mean the ones that just watch you make a fool of yourself.

Non-Combat Pets!

Now I’ll admit, I was a little skeptical for Blizzard to have started selling pets for real money, but I think the deal with the Panderan Monk and donating some of the proceeds to charity is a good deal. So I sprung for him and Lil’KT.

I am so impressed!  The animations for the Panderan Monk and Lil’KT are hillarious. Watch some videos after the jump. Continue Reading…
